Stephanie Geggier
Chemistry Professor
Hi, I'm Stephanie Geggier. This is my new website. Still work in progress...
Stephanie Geggier's Bio:
Dr. Stephanie Geggier is a Clinical Associate Professor of Chemistry at NYU, where she has spent the past decade shaping and refining the General Chemistry laboratory courses. Originally from Berlin, Germany, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry from Humboldt University. Knowing from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, she completed a three-year program for aspiring high school teachers in Chemistry and Biology at Humboldt University before setting her sights on the next chapter—New York.
In 2005, Stephanie and her husband arrived in the city with only a few suitcases, no money, and no place to live. It was a leap of faith, and though the path ahead was uncertain, doors began to open. She pursued her Ph.D. in Chemistry at NYU, where she taught General Chemistry lab and recitation, gaining valuable hands-on experience in working with students. After earning her doctorate, she taught at the City University of New York (CUNY), where she learned the foundations of curriculum design and lecturing. These experiences deepened her commitment to student learning and prepared her for her current role at NYU.
Stephanie joined NYU’s faculty in 2014 and now oversees lab courses enrolling over 700 students each semester, ensuring both intellectual rigor and consistency in instruction. She is passionate about making chemistry accessible, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. She finds great joy in witnessing students experience those "aha" moments when complex concepts finally click.
As part of her teaching, Stephanie has authored three chemistry lab manuals and enjoys designing new experiments that challenge and inspire students. She has also pioneered the integration of technology in her courses, streamlining course management and enhancing student engagement. Her efforts were recognized with the CAS Teach/Tech Award for her innovative distance learning strategies during the pandemic.
Outside of her academic work, Stephanie finds joy in playing guitar and singing Christian worship music in church. Her faith is a source of inspiration, and through music, she expresses her joy and gratitude. She finds great fulfillment in sharing this joy with others and encouraging them to join in praising and worshiping God.
Looking ahead, she aims to continue innovating chemistry education, leveraging technology to create even more interactive learning experiences. Whether mentoring students, developing new teaching strategies, or leading large lab courses, her mission remains clear: to make chemistry an accessible and transformative subject for all students.
